Welcome to Robin's Creative Cottage and the "Fantabulous Cricut Crawl"...
our version of a blog hop!
If you've come from visiting Penny at Light Whimsy, you're in the right place! If you've just happened to come across my blog and would like to play along with our Fantabulous Cricut Crawl, start here at FCCB.
For our Fantabulous Cricut Crawl, each Design Team member will be featuring a specific element related to using your Cricut. There will be a wide variety of techniques and elements that will be featured so make sure to check out each DT member's blog! There will be prizes along the way AND there will be a grand prize for the participant that incorporates the most featured elements on ONE project!!! How fun is that?
The element I've chose to feature for the crawl is "drawing" using your cricut machine.
I do know not everyone has the Cricut markers, or marker holders. However, If you do I hope you'll add drawing to your project for FCCB project. And if you don't just keep in mind that after reading my post you may want to add cricut drawing tools to your wish list. I had so much fun creating.
There are a few different drawing tools available, I honestly have not tried the Cricut markers, I own the mini sharpie and mini gel pen holders (right in the above photo) from Amy Chomas. Using sharpies are great for thick lines, but the gel pens are my favorite way of drawing, because images can be drawn quite small and still able to see each detail.
I created these cards using design studio, a cut file is available at the bottom of this post.
I used my mini black gel pen to draw the images, then cut the rectangle shape 5 1/4" x 4", thank you and shadow thank you. Using my paper trimmer I cut a rectangle 8 1/2" x 4 1/4" folded this in half makes a perfect A2 size card.
Rectangle is from "George and Basic Shapes", words and designs from "Storybook" cartridges.
I used pop-dots to pop the word off the page. The cut file has the word thank you, but you can add any wording you would like for these cards.
Now it's your turn! Use drawing tools using your Cricut on a project, and add your link -HERE at Fantabulous Cricut Challenge Blog. I can't wait to see what you come up with!
If you incorporate cricut drawing on your project you will be eligible to win a prize package from me!
Next stop...Sammye Jo's blog, 62 Cards. Go see what Sammye Jo has in store for you today... And when you're done, make sure to link up your project to FCCB's Fantabulous Cricut Crawl post to be entered into the contest! Try to see how many elements you can add to your project!!!
Happy Crawling!
Thank You Cut File -HERE
If you download this file please leave a comment for me :)
I'll be feature another drawing idea tomorrow.

ReplyDeleteThanks for all your work, Robin! ;)
I have owned the cricut markers for years, but I have never used them. It looks like I can put them to good use with very little effort.
ReplyDeletevery very nice, I have not thought of doing that.
ReplyDeleteYou added some great elements to your projects using the markers. I just recently purchased the gel pen and mini sharpie pen holders from Chomas Creations and I am hooked. LOVE'M Love what the markers and gel pens add to projects. Great Post
ReplyDeleteLove your cards, Robin! I've only used the markers for outlining cuts - never thought about using them to make design elements on the pp. Thanks for the ideas!
ReplyDeleteFabulous designs! I've never 'drawn' with the Cricut before. I blogged about the Cricut Crawl and your personal giveaway:

I want to know more about the holder for gel pens!!! I hadn't heard of that and I am constantly complaining that the cricut markers write to big! Thank you so much for sharing.
ReplyDeleteWell I don't have the adapter or the mini pens so I am moving on, hmmpff
ReplyDeleteOkay, I don't have a draw option, yet...these cards are gorgeous and a big motivator toward getting my drawing pens.
ReplyDeleteSmiles!
Gwen
Great Job. Now I want to go get some of the markers.
ReplyDelete(This was cut and is reposted here. I was admiring the monogram cards again and commented in the wrong spot. Sorry!)
ReplyDeleteI'm back again to let you know that I did pull out my Cricut markers to complete your challenge. I've had them for ages and this is only the second time I've used them. Thanks for the challenge! I used a marker in my journal box for a layout I did for your challenge. You can find details on my blog (http://smallbitsofpaper.blogspot.com/2010/05/lady-lenore-layout-fantabulous-cricut.html). I posted at Fantabulous Cricut as well. Thanks for letting me play!
Markers are great for intricate cuts, my paper always tears if I use a blade. Here is a new site for pens, if yo don't have it already :) http://cri-kits.com/

Thanks for the fabulous idea. I downloaded your cut file because I want to have a go (I own both the markers and gelpens but have never used them)for my daughter's birthday card. How did you get the blackout shadow for the word Thankyou? I wanted Birthday girl however the shadow kept cutting the middles of the letters. Thanks again for allowing the download.
ReplyDeletebujgirl asked... How did you get the blackout shadow for the word Thankyou? I wanted Birthday girl however the shadow kept cutting the middles of the letters.
ReplyDeleteThis is a very cool idea I learned from Diane at Capadia Designs, that you can "omit" areas of an image in design studio.... Diane has a video here...

check it out if you haven't learned this, it's a great feature!
Thanks for your question.
Robin :)
Thanks heaps for the link. I never knew what that 'feature' was. It just goes to show that because of the fabulous people out there like you we beginners can learn all the tricks of the CDS. Thanks again.
ReplyDeleteHi I just learned a little this weekend about using the markers in the expression, but nothing about gel pens. Are there special pens for casings for this and if yes where can one get them?
ReplyDeleteThanks Vicky
